Let's Get Comical! - Week of 2/27/13

Get behind what?

Yes, I meant to post a column featuring last week's comics, but it was a big load and some of the comics were really hard to read. So I'll be posting that ASAP. But for now let's TRY to stay caught up with this week's three comic load, including what might be a historic issue.

This Week's Haul:
- Aquaman #17
- Avenging Spider-Man #17
- Batman Incorporated #8

Valentin Valentino Presents: A Valentine's Fiesta

Err, you know what, I was going to do a gimmick this week about an Italian named Valentin Valentino hosting a Valentine's Day themed Fiesta, but man, typing that one sentence of hovertext was difficult.

So screw that, welcome to the Fiesta!

Last week I asked you if you thought the days of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone movies were over, and 54.5 percent of you answered no.

-- Box Office News: It was spoiled by R8DR because he JUST CAN'T WAIT UNTIL FRIDAY! But in case you missed it, Identity Thief cruised to an easy victory to the delight of nobody on the Blog

Let's Get Comical! - Week of 2/13/13

Yes, it's my attempt to get back to weekly comic reviews. I REALLY need some motivation to read more and not sit around and play Halo 4. Since I've dropped a bunch of titles, I've only been buying three or four comics a week, which is a lot faster and easier to read than when I had crap like Superman and Green Lantern in my pile that I really didn't want to read. So my new plan is to get back to reviewing titles weekly, catching up BE DAMNED. When I do happen to catch up on comics I'll just post them as a separate column.

I've got about a 3 week backlog which I'll post as a "weekly" column soon but I'll work my way backwards.

Heck, I'm confusing even myself with all this typing so let's just get right to the reviews!

This week was larger than it has been for the last several weeks, however, with seven titles:

-- Star Wars #2
-- The Walking Dead #107
-- The Walking Dead: The Governor Reprint
-- Batman #17
-- Batman and Robin #17
-- Scarlet Spider #
-- The Uncanny X-Men #1 (yes, this is being rebooted a year later)

Fiesta Bowl II

Come one, come all to the column that has renamed itself after the Super Bowl, which would have been more relevant last week, but dammit we had to discuss whether or not Jennifer Lawrence was wearing a two-piece dress or not!

So let's pretend we're suffering from a chicken wings and beer hangover from last Sunday. Yes, yehehehehesssssss.... let's go with that.

Last week I asked you if you thought the decision to cast Paul Giamatti as the Rhino in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel was a good idea, and 37.5 percent of you said you wanted to view more pictures of Jennifer Lawrence's ripped clothes.

-- Box Office News: Warm Bodies uses its zombie powers to scare off competitors. Meanwhile, sucks to be a popular 80's movie guy in a modern day movie!
-- Trailer Time: Check out new trailers for The Lords of Salem, Into the White, The Sapphires and Final Girl in sixty seconds
-- In Theaters This Week: Identity Thief, Side Effects, and Top Gun in IMAX 3D
-- Next Week's Notable DVD Releases: Skyfall, The Perks of Being a Wildflower, and The Man with the Iron Fists

After two consecutive weeks of bringing awesome links to the Walk, the Savior of the Blog himself, Glenn, returns the favor with an equally awesome link detailing how YOU can purchase advance tickets for Star Trek: Into Darkness

-- Netflix both giveth and taketh away
-- Speaking of Netflix, they've reached a long-term deal with Queen Latifah, which is exciting news for absolutely nobody
-- How awful would Superman Lives had been? Read it and weep...
-- Disney attempts to beat a dead horse by finally giving us the long rumored Young Han Solo and Young Boba Fett movies. Umm, guys, there's already a movie about Young Han. There's also already a movie about Young Boba
-- Don't expect any raunchy material at the Grammys
-- The Justice League script needs a rewrite. This could be good news for the film, and probably a delay
-- A sixth Die Hard is coming
-- Note to self: Don't piss off Paul Schrader
-- How the Grinch Stole Christmas is getting a 3D remake. They can't possibly fuck this up, can they? (soiler: they will)
-- Skyfall make da money yah
-- Meet the first two cast members of the Zombieland pilot

And that brings us to this week's poll.

Are the days of Arnold/Stallone movies over?
Yes
No
Meh

The Sad Saga of Jennifer Lawrence's Ripped Dress

Welcome one and all to the Fiesta that gave Lindsay Lohan her first bottle of booze, the Friday Film Fiesta!

Last week I asked you if you were excited for JJ Abrams directing Star Wars Episode VII, and 55.6 percent of you said yes.

-- Box Office News: Jeremy Renner continues to be everywhere with his epic domination of Parker and Movie 43
-- Trailer Time: Check out new Super Bowl spots for several of 2013's blockbusters!
-- In Theaters This Week: Bullet to the Head, Stand Up Guys, and Warm Bodies
-- Next Week's Notable DVD Releases: Flight, Here Comes The Boom, Alex Cross, and Celeste and Jesse Forever

-- The butt of this week's joke is that Jennifer Lawrence's dress ripped when she got up to accept an award. Or did it?
-- SPEAKING OF SAG, who won SAG Awards?
-- Box Office Mojo previews February's films
-- Screened continues its look at the Sundance Film Festival: Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, and Part 6

-- Justin Boober!
-- The Oscars will be hosted by a CGI teddy bear and a John Cena lookalike
-- Get ready for Dakota Fanning Nude Scenes
-- Just like the next iPad, Ashton Kutcher is 33 percent thinner!
-- What films will be shown at South By Southwest?
-- I made an assumption at the beginning of the Fiesta that Movie 43 is horrible. With so many A-List stars, why didn't any of them promote it?
-- Finally, the 3D rereleases of Star Wars Episodes II and III have been canceled

And that brings us to this week's poll.

Paul Giamatti was cast as Rhino in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel. Is this a good choice?
Yes
No

Rhyno is my only Rhino
