Let's Get Comical!

Welcome to another edition of Let’s Get Comical!

Apologies for the delay in content, I’ve been working a lot lately, not to mention trying to find time to get all of my Christmas shopping done, along with having a social life. The comic week of December 14 was very light as well, as I only bought two new titles. Therefore I am combining last week and this week (December 21)! Double the pleasure, double the fun! I guess.

I should point out that Justice League was to be reviewed this week, but my comic shop was shorted this week, so I won’t have the issue until next week. It will be reviewed in the next edition of LGC.

Also, Catwoman and Wonder Woman have both been dropped from my pull list. I did not purchase the new issues that dropped this week, although I will probably break and pick them up at some point and use their reviews as filler for slow weeks. Catwoman at least got better after issue one, whereas Wonder Woman is simply a waste of cash. I mean, $3 buys you a bottle of beer at a bar! Much better use of $3 than a Wonder Woman comic.

Let’s get to it!

Burger King Free Fry Friday Film Fiesta

Welcome to the Fiesta!

We're nearing the end of 2011, meaning Hollywood is in a sort of holding pattern. Does anyone else feel this way? Usually we get one, maybe two good movies between December and March. That's a whole lot of crap!

Last week I asked you which recent (2000-present) movie needs to be remade. And, I kid you not, the result was a TIE between Jack and Jill and Other (Please Specify)! And since HitmanClark was the only person to specify which film (Wolverine), I hereby declare that Wolverine (2009) and Jack and Jill need to be remade!

THE FIESTA HATH SPOKEN.

Oh, and it was also the smallest turnout in Revived FFF poll history!

Now keen eyes will notice that I posted this same video in last week's Fiesta, but I'll forgive Glenn because he sexifies all of our threads. But make sure to watch the video before SOPA becomes a law!
-- George Takei wants Trekkies and Warsies to join forces against the Vampire Menace. To quote Glenn's avatar, "My fandom can deal with it." Also, how did I miss Shatner's response to Carrie Fisher?

And that brings us to this week's poll.

Are new details about The Dark Knight Rises making you excited for the film?
Yes, they make my Dark Knight Rise
No, they make my Dark Knight Fall
ENOUGH PENIS JOKES

On a content note, the schedule for the Fiesta is up in the air for the next two weeks. It's looking like there won't be a Fiesta next week, but I will try to have one ready for December 30. If that fails, expect the same two-week hiatus that everything else is taking!

Let's Get Comical!

Welcome to, by my count, the 10th edition of Let’s Get Comical! Why I’m pointing out this milestone, I’m not exactly sure, but I’ve been doing this for about 10 weeks now, so go me!

As usual, I’ve fallen behind, choosing to drink on weekends rather than go home and read comics. So let’s get to reviewing!

Let's Get Comical!

The week of 11/27 was a small week for comics, as only one of my regular titles came out. Therefore I decided to merge this week with last week (comics released on 11/23, the week of Thanksgiving) since I spent all of my time reviewing Spider Island. And attending football games. And getting drunk.

Therefore, I have some catching up to do. LEGGO.

PLAYOFFS?!?

This year's College Football Bowl Games have been announced, and as usual, people are pissed. TWO ACC teams in BCS bowls? Michigan in a BCS bowl, and Michigan State, who destroyed them, going to a lesser bowl game?

It is now time for me to reveal MY PLAN for a playoff. Now I'm a loser and I casually follow the FCS (formerly 1-AA). These are your Montanas, your Sam Houston States, your Maines, all of those smaller schools. They have a playoff system, and last year it expanded to 20 teams. Now I don't know TOO much about their system, but I do believe the NCAA could easily replicate this process for the FBS.

That is the FCS playoff bracket as of today, December 5. As you can see, there are four play-in games, with the winners of those games playing the four top-seeded teams. Then we have an actual playoff to determine the actual National Champion! Pretty cool, huh?

Now my idea for a Playoff uses the AP Poll and other various rankings to determine seeds, along with Conference Championships. So if we were to use the FCS formula, my playoff bracket would go something like this:

See? Was that so tough?

Now my idea tourney would be a 32 team playoff. Yes, it's a lot of teams, but it does add in some stranglers who probably should have gotten in anyway. It would look something like this:

I'm sure there are some flaws, and there would need to be some teams/seeds reshuffled (And I would add first round byes for some teams), but I think this is a good size for a tournament.

Here's how I would sort the thing out:

-- Regular Season: 12 games, and season ends the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Rivalry Weekend)
-- Saturday December 3: Conference Championship Games commence
-- Saturday December 10: First round games commence at stadium of higher seeded team; top seeded teams and Conference Champs get a bye through this round
-- Saturday December 17: Second round games commence at stadium of higher ranked team
-- December 22 and 23: 3rd round games commence at neutral sites; games take place in Arlington, TX (Cowboys Stadium; Cotton Bowl), Phoenix, AZ (U of Phoenix Stadium; Fiesta Bowl), San Diego, CA (Qualcomm Stadium; Holiday Bowl), and Atlanta, GA (Georgia Dome; Chik-fil-A Bowl)
-- January 1: 4th round games commence at neutral sites; New Orleans, LA (Superdome; Sugar Bowl) and Miami, FL (Dolphin Stadium or whatever it's called now; Orange Bowl)
-- January 7 or 8 (later if bye week implemented before championship game): Championship Game commences from Los Angeles, CA (Rose Bowl)

Yeah, it's messy, and would take forever to finish, but it's the same amount of time between the MNC game and the last game of the regular season that we have now. That's why there would probably be much less teams included. Plus, it would actually decide a champion.

Don't like my idea? Well, I don't see you coming up with anything...

Friday Film Fiesta RETURNS

Welcome to the return of the Friday Film Fiesta! The turkey has all been pooped out but the shame of being on the losing side of a football game lingers on.

Two weeks ago I asked you if the Blog of Doom needed to finish off the Twilight Roundtable Discussions, and 53.8 percent of you voted NO.

Well alrighty then.

-- Box Office News: Twilight dominates but The Muppets aren't going down without a fight
-- Trailer Time: Short list this week with John Carter, Shame, and, good grief, Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie
-- In Theaters This Week: No wide releases, though if you're lucky you get limited releases Answers to Nothing and Shame
-- Next Week's Notable DVD Releases: The Hangover Part II, The Help, Cowboys and Aliens, The Debt, and Mr. Popper's Penguins (12/6)

-- JoBlo takes a look at Steven Spielberg's Top Ten Biggest Mistakes
-- Screened asks if black and white still matters

-- Gary Busey is... wait, what?
-- Sundance has announced some films that will be shown next year
-- More details on The Dark Knight Rises
-- PEZ gives us our first look at the Lizard, and here’s some concept art as well
-- FOX is trying to keep some continuity

-- Here’s a leaked synopsis for the Akira movie
-- Good news for Riddick fans
-- Good news for the three Bridget Jones fans in the world
-- WHY
-- This week in Not Michael Cera news
-- News on the Evil Dead remake
-- And finally, I almost didn't post this because of Badguy and Cyke's ignoring of my "90BOOB10" comment in the last Fiesta, but that would be punishing the rest of you. Maybe. But anyway, what did Tori Spelling think about her topless photo?

And that brings us to this week's poll.

Which film needs an "On Ice!" adaptation?
American Psycho
The Breakfast Club
The Big Lebowski
Juno
Mrs. Doubtfire
