The Simpsons Season 5

Time for another edition of the Simpsons Summer Marathon! Today we’ll be discussing Season 5 of the show starring America’s favorite family. I apologize for these things taking so long to crank out. The episodes are a blast to watch but it takes forever to write about them. Which jokes should I reference? Should I try to describe everything going on? WHO TOOK MY FALSE TEETH?!?!?

I might say this about every season of the show, but this one is probably the best. Now let’s find out just how good it really is…

A Rant About SDCC

Ah, San Diego Comic Con.

I'm sure there was a time when it was actually focused on comics, but in recent years it seems that the focus has shifted to selling overpriced exclusive merchandise and booths featuring attractive female models paid to stand around all day wearing comic costumes and looking like they would rather be elsewhere instead of being ogled at by nerds or whoever attends this thing anymore. Corporate bigwigs? I don't even know.

But mainly they focus on the overpriced exclusive merchandise.

InVasion - Ten Years Later

Have you ever had a dream where you’re about to screw a really hot chick and then all of a sudden she turns into some sort of unicorn-human hybrid with claws instead of hooves and teeth on her hoo-hah and they chop your unit off and you bleed to death while kids point and laugh at you?

Because I haven’t.

I have, however, witnessed the real life equivalent of the above description play out in real life in the form of the WCW InVasion.

Longhorn Network vs. Big 12-2

I figure if I'm going to talk about college sports then I might as well discuss this shit. Yes I do hold a degree from Texas A&M and yes there will be a slight bias. If you don't like it, this is my blog, so fuck you. If you want me to write articles with objective, unbiased journalism, give me a job.

Delusional Longhorn t-shirt fans best quit reading now. (lol as if I have readers)

NCAA Football 12 Review

This should have gone up a few days ago, but I'm lazy and wanted to improve my social life. Sorry.

If you happen to be both a college football fan and a video gamer, mid-July is probably one of the best times of the year for you. Yes, the middle of summer means it's time for the annual release of EA Sports' latest edition of the NCAA Football video game series. Each year the new edition is hyped up to be the greatest version since sliced bread, but always receives somewhat negative reviews from everyday people.

So rather than doing something productive with my time, I've decided to make an attempt at reviewing the latest version, NCAA Football 12. Sure, I could be at the beach ogling the hotties in bikinis like everyone else, but that stuff costs money, and I don't have any money to drive to the beach. I do, however, have enough cash to buy this game, so here we are. So yeah.

Sorry for the crappy intro, can you tell I'm not used to reviewing things? Let's get to it...

Women's World Cup

Yes, I watched. Big whoop. Need some content so here are some thoughts.

- I actually completely forgot about all of Japan's struggles from earlier this year, such as earthquakes and tsunamis, so this was a good "feel good" moment for them. It almost looked like they wanted it more in the OT period. Congrats to them!

- Alex Morgan <3

- How stupid is it to decide your sport's world championship on something that requires a little bit of luck? That would be like a Super Bowl ending in a tie and having the winner decided by seeing which punter can punt the ball closest to the end zone.

- Disappointed/sad Alex Morgan makes me sad :(

- I realized why Americans aren't "into" soccer while watching this game. The camera is too far away and you can barely see what's going on. The game ended in an anti-climactic way that only required a little bit of luck. I was more confused than anything and if the US had pulled it off, it wouldn't really have felt that satisfying. It's nothing like say football or basketball where the camera puts you right there and overtimes require a little bit of luck AND skill. Or maybe we Americans are just snobbish assholes who hate sports we didn't invent and this is why every other country on earth hates us? Nah...

- Did I mention Alex Morgan? Let's end with a picture of her, shall we?

Summer of Tarantino

While I'm working on original content, have a look at the Blog of Doom's first entry in the "Summer of Tarantino" movie series: a roundtable discussion on the movie Reservoir Dogs. See if you can guess which participant I am!

Content Update!

For the zero people who are reading this blog, I will have several rants popping up next week along with more of my Simpsons Summer Marathon. Also planning a mini-review of NCAA Football 12.

It's... gonna be good.

The Simpsons Season 4

Good grief I need to find an easier way to write these things.

So here we have one of my oldest DVD sets. This set came out in June 2004, and I snagged it shortly after its release. I was nowhere near as big of a Simpsons fanatic back then as I am now but this DVD made me so. I mean, being able to watch all these old episodes any time I want is pretty darn cool.

Now let’s get to it…

The Simpsons Season 3 (Disc 1)

One of the worst parts of the summer is that when you’re stuck inside, there is nothing good on TV. NOTHING. I mean, the other day the best thing on was a weird trivia show where the losers got thrown off of cliffs and other crap. What? To make matters worse, the local FOX affiliate decided to replace shows such as Seinfeld with those stupid celebrity gossip shows. That’s just Not Fair to Flair, so with no reruns to watch on weeknights I decided to bust out my Simpsons DVDs and give them a watch. I actually did this last summer, going through 12 of the 14 Season Sets (I don’t own Season 13 and skipped watching Season 20) and I've been wanting to give it another go, so here we are.

Now I’m not a big fan of Seasons 1-3, but I think there are enough great episodes in Season 3 to go ahead and watch the entire season. I’ll more than likely go back and review Seasons 1 and 2 after I get through the rest of the series, just for completionists sake.

Let’s start things off with Disc 1:

From one freedom loving American to another, have a Happy 4th of July.

UFC 132, from a Casual Fan's Perspective

What a card!

I'm more of a casual fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but a few of my close friends are huge fans, and they're slowly but surely drawing me in. The first UFC show I watched in full was UFC 116 exactly one year ago, the card featuring Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin. It was an awesome show and was my favorite PPV (of the handful of shows I've seen) up until last night's show.

Ode to the Cornhuskers

(Editor's Note: This was originally written on June 30, 2011, Nebraska's last day in the Big 12 Conference. I carried it over here after I deleted my original blog on Tumblr)

Today marks Nebraska’s last day as a member of the Big 12 Conference.

It has been an awkward 15 years of membership, to say the least. The Big 12 was formed in 1994 when the Big 8 Conference chose to merge with four members of the dying Southwest Conference, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Baylor. Since that day, Texas and Nebraska have been at odds over multiple factors including partial and non-qualifying players and television revenue. Nebraska also refuses to get over the fact that Texas beat them in the Big 12 Championship in 1996, denying Nebraska a third straight National Championship. Texas also beat Nebraska on a last second field goal in the 2009 Big 12 Championship Game. Nebraska was never able to beat Texas during a regular season Big 12 matchup. There might have been other factors from other sports but considering Nebraskans only care about football, that’s highly unlikely.

We’ve all heard the bullshit excuses and complaining about why the conference is losing two members and quite frankly I can’t talk about the 2010 conference realignment without going into a huge rant about the bogus “new” Big 12. So I figured I would take a trip down memory lane and take a look at the memorable moments Nebraska gave us during their 15 years in the Big 12.

The Debut

As a recent college graduate having virtually zero luck in this crappy job market, I can’t help but notice that some of the jobs I’ve been applying for want 4-5 years experience in Blogging. Well I’ve been posting on blogs since 2004 and forums in general since 2002 but apparently that isn’t good enough. So I figured I would start up my own blog, yet another generic blog about life, TV, movies, or just pop culture in general. But primarily about sports. And by sports I mean college sports. And by college sports I mean college football. Don’t worry, I won’t bore you with personal life crap, that’s why we have Facebook and Twitter.

Right now this is all a big work in progress, once I get everything sorted out there will be backgrounds and other junk people love. I’m personally more interested in the Archives section.

So kick back, relax and hopefully you’ll enjoy the ride. I know I will.
